Job Summary

CenturyLink is seeking a Patent Attorney with 4-8 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution in the electrical and computer software industry. Candidates must be a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and a registered attorney in good standing in at least one state. Candidates should be highly motivated and have strong interpersonal skills, in addition to an educational degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering or computer science. This role will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities related to CenturyLink’s and its affiliates’ patent portfolios, which consist of approximately 3000 pending and issued patents around the world. The Patent Attorney is expected to manage CenturyLink’s and its affiliates’ patent intake process (including invention disclosure evaluation and leading targeted strategic harvest projects) and U.S. and foreign patent preparation and prosecution activities. The Patent Attorney will be expected to personally handle all facets of prosecuting patent applications in front of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, including drafting of office actions and handling appeals, and will also be expected to supervise CenturyLink’s internal patent paralegals and outside counsel work in connection with the preparation and prosecution of CenturyLink’s and its affiliates patent applications. The Patent Attorney will be expected to perform complex intellectual property clearance reviews and offensive assertion evaluations, and prepare opinions respecting the same. Candidates should have experience in directly counseling clients respecting intellectual property matters and creatively advising on solutions that successfully balance intellectual property risk with business practicality. In addition to the foregoing patent-related activities, this role will also involve negotiation of intellectual-property related provisions in commercial agreements, performing intellectual property due diligence in connection with M&A activities and other intellectual property-related tasks in connection with special projects.
