The position is accountable for a variety of functions that require strong business acumen and product knowledge by incumbent and within team the incumbent directs

Job Description

Functional areas include:

  • Manage and modify a family of products within the Business Markets Group. Create an understanding of the position of each product relative to competitors’ products and relative to other families of products within Qwest.

  • Drive the product to attain goals as set forth in the competitive assessment and internal relationship.

  • Develop assets to assist sales teams in consultatively selling the product – competitive assessment, pricing comparison, presentations for customer needs fit, SWAT assessment, develop product modifications that increase the life cycle of the product.

  • Collaborate with other product groups, other BMG groups and other functional groups across the entire business to understand impact on product (legal, regulatory, IT, network, corporate strategy, other BUs).

  • Manage revenue and segment income accountability (planning, budgeting, variance analysis, trend analysis)

  • Internal and external communications SMEs (Spokesperson, webinars/seminars, white papaers, collateral, sell sheets)

  • Direct a team of highly skilled product managers within the family of products.

  • The Product organization is responsible for the development on ongoing management of all products sold by the business markets group. This currently reflects a responsibility for $4.0B worth of products, the product fit in relation to other products, competitive assessment, profit and liability of each product.

  • Collaborate with other internal groups to promote cross business unit strategies (legal, regulatory, IT, Network, corporate strategy)

  • Calculate, Understand, Analyze revenue and segment income for product portfolio and modify strategy to achieve results

  • Support sales and marketing resources with information regarding customer needs the product is designed to match

  • Participate as product champion in segmentation research efforts

  • Participate as product champion in go to market strategy sessions

  • Stable product families range in revenue from $.57B in revenue to $2.05B in revenue. One area of new product family (products of the future) has $.27B in revenue. All products for BMG are managed in these group families and the success of product families is directly related to the success of BMG. Without successful product family strategies, BMG will not make its commitment to the corporation. This role is responsible for planning, managing and modifying product families to ensure success. It does that through the direction of product managers responsible for products within the family. Organization consists of exempt management professionals with strong expertise in product development and analysis.


Bachelor’s degree or technical degree

Master’s Degree preferred

Sales experience

Engineering experience

Technical degree allows product director to understand benefits capability for customers

10 years of experience in product management or product marketing or development
