CenturyLink State Public Relations Manager in DENVER, Colorado

The State Communications Manager for CenturyLink will be a public and media relations professional with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with local and regional media in several key states where we operate as well as the ability to successfully leverage external, internal and social media communications campaigns. They will have exceptional writing, editing and social media skills. This individual will be responsible for messaging consistency, responding to localized outages and consumer issues and localizing our story through press releases, op-eds and supportive social media content. NOTE: This position can sit in one of the following locations - Denver, Broomfield or Littleton CO, Phoenix AZ, Tulsa OK or Monroe LA.
This position offers potential for a mid-level professional to grow in their role representing CenturyLink in several key states where we operate. Other responsibilities will include:
Drafting and localizing news releases and issues-related statements
Interacting with regional VPs and their direct reports for matters relating to our network
Representing our PR team on local consumer meetings, calls and initiatives
Primary responsibilities include the following:
Building strong relationships with local media in specific states in our coverage territories
Conducting proactive media relations
Carry the message (tell a national story at a local level)
Pitch local and regional publications along with supporting social media content
Managing local issues
Rapid responses to localized outages and consumer issues
Fielding and responding to residential service issues/complaints with the help of public policy and local network managers
Ensuring messaging consistency with local public policy teams
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or a related field required
Approximately 5-7 years of relevant experience
Excellent written and oral communications skills with professional writing and editing experience and the ability to make complex information relatable to a variety of audiences
Proven ability to build relationships and secure coverage with local and regional print, digital, broadcast, journals, magazines and news services
Excellent editing and proofreading skills are a must
Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational and project management experience
Ability to think critically and independently
Self-starter who can work independently or support others when necessary
Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong sense of teamwork and collaboration
Understanding of telecom, technology industry and state and local policy issues is a plus
Bachelors or Equivalent in Communication or Public Relations
