Job Summary

Network Technician 2 (NT2)

CenturyLink is seeking skilled and motivated technicians to perform system installation, regroom and/or maintenance activities on the CenturyLink national network. This position has the capability to elevate and transform CenturyLink’s position in the global communications marketplace.

Job Expectations:

  • The Network Technician 2 (NT2) serves as primary technical point of contact for engineering orders.

  • The NT2 works with internal and external departments and vendors to ensure on-time delivery of service.

  • The NT2 performs network system installations and/or maintenance activities.

  • The NT2 monitors network operations and resolves routine network monitoring problems.

  • The NT2 will remotely provision layers 1 through 3 (OSI model). Services include DS0, DS1, DS-3, OC-n, 1G through 100G LAN-PHY.

  • The NT2 serves as a SME, mentor and trainer for technicians of junior grade and experience.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities :

  • Primary function is the ability to build router configs on both customer and network circuits and perform regroom activity on both narrowband transport, switched, and data circuits.

  • Performs trouble isolation for issues with regrooms during the first 48 hours post regroom.

  • Engages other technical assistance teams to assist with install, regroom and trouble resolution activities.

  • Knowledge of BGP, EBGP, OSPF, MPLS and static routing. As well, a basic understanding of LAN and WAN technology.

  • Knowledge of basic switch and narrowband transport topology.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent education and experience.

  • 3 to 5+ yrs related experience in specific area or equivalent.

  • May require technical certification.

Preferred Job Skills:

  • Ideal candidate possesses working knowledge within Ciena 6500 , Cisco transport, Tellabs DCCS, INTAS, TEMS, Alcatel, Cisco and Juniper routers, Frame/ATM, Sonus & legacy Nortel TDM & IP trunking

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols, MPLS networks, VPN principles, DNS principles,

  • Understanding of basic switch and narrowband transport (DCCS and testing) topology.

  • Prefer 1+ year of technical experience on Alcatel, Juniper or Cisco routers.

  • CCNA/CCNP preferred.

  • Possess excellent customer service acumen.

  • Understand and apply standard trouble shooting techniques.

  • Demonstrate proficiency with trouble ticketing application as well as other internal tools.

  • Willing and able to share and convey knowledge base with internal and external entities to ensure projects are completed on time.

Hours may vary depending on the needs of the business. This is a fast-paced, highly structured operation center.
