Applies advanced engineering and network principles, theories, concepts and technologies to solve unusually complex problems and issues. Leads the development, evaluation and implementation of new and innovative principles, processes and applications.
Manage the design and evolution of an existing wide area network in support of government customers and ensures that concepts correlate with provided or developed requirements
Serve as a lead in technical projects from inception to completion including, but not limited to the following: research, conceptualization, feasibility assessment, design, lab testing, implementation planning, procurement, training, documentation, and transition to the operational environment
Provide technical guidance for the composition of statements of work (SOW), engineering change proposals (ECP), Method of Procedures (MOP), and other engineering documentation as required
Accompany management at vendor and customer meetings in support of business development when required
Interfaces with team members for life cycle management and technical refresh planning
Conduct in-depth analysis for Tier III and IV issues and solves complex problems when necessary
Provides mentoring and technical/engineering advice to junior engineers
Knowledge of Wide Area Network security requirements and techniques for protecting computer systems/networks from attacks, viruses, data tampering, unauthorized system entry, and other emerging threats
Will to commit to ongoing training in disciplines necessary to perform your job
Ability to perform network analysis and modeling for implementation and deployment of live transport network
Identify, resolve, and/or escalate network issues according to procedural documentation and training
Creative problem-solving to identify the source of problems
Create or update documentation including network diagrams, procedures, and policies to ensure consistent support of customer environments
Through customer consultation, realize growth opportunities for production customer environments.
Provide guidance to adjacent support tiers to assist in resolution of complex network, system and security incidents
Provide and obtain timely updates to/from relevant parties (internal and external)
Provide consultative assistance to the Operations Center during off hours as needed
Review system and network configurations with Service Delivery to ensure successful implementation of services into production

Skilled in Transport Optical and Data equipment;
Skillsets in the following disciplines: Analytical and troubleshooting skills; Proficient with circuit test sets, OTDR’s, Optical Spectrum Analyzer; Work with COMSEC/Crypto Gear
Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
Must possess considerable business acumen
Ability to quickly adapt to advancing technologies and procedural changes
Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with other technologists and business partners to maintain high service levels in a demanding environment
Ability to work well in team environment
Excellent verbal, written and analytical skills
Hands on experience with one or more of the following: Equipment installation, power, OSP, Fiber optic fusion splicing, testing, turn-up, and maintenance
Technical certifications in areas of expertise
Education or Equivalent Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education in related fields
Certificates of training in associated fields/equipments
Minimum 6-8 years of experience in related field.
