Perform installation, testing, turn-up, and acceptance of circuit equipment including Voice, TDM, Optical IP Ethernet, SONET and emerging technologies.
Conducts tests associated with the installation, repair, turn-up of designed circuits that include ISDN, DS0 – analog and digital, DS1, DS3 and optical circuits.
Performs test, turn-up, and repair of Pair Gain, DLC and Optical systems.
Troubleshoot customer circuits, network components, and infrastructure from the customer’s premise up to the Central Office frame, complete final testing and resolve all customer issues and problems, insuring customer satisfaction before closing job.
Use laptop computer to option higher-level electronic systems and applications, and to test and install individual services. Utilize various testing devices such as the TB2000, TB5800, HST3000, OTDR, Light Meter, Volt-Ohm-Meter, EXFO FTB-1, other metallic and optical measuring devices.
Ability to analyze circuit diagrams, OWDDOC, schematic drawings, Engineering prints and plant maps to locate splices, isolate repairs in buildings, aerial or buried plant.
Utilize an OTDR to locate fiber failures and fusion splicer to conduct basic fiber repairs.
Have a knowledge of WFA DO & C and TIRKS. Be able to identify critical dates such as plant test dates, due dates and the circuit design information needed for installation and repairs.
Interfaces with other work groups such as testers, engineering, construction and contractors to ensure that committed service test dates and times are met, and to test the integrity of service prior to customer release.
Must be able to work independently with minimal or no supervision, observe all Safety rules and regulations, work from ladders on poles exceeding 18 feet, and participate in the YOUCAN sales program.
At least six (6) months of experience within the last five years installing and repairing design services and optical equipment including but not limited to ISDN, DS0, DS1, DS3, GPON (IP Connect), SONET, other optical services and Ethernet services up to 10Gig for business customers.
Experience maintaining/repairing and testing copper cable and/or fiber optic cable in an underground, aerial, or buried environment.
Experience working with Ethernet and associated CPE (Customer Provided Equipment).
Experience installing-maintaining Cisco 3750 and CIENA 3916-3960, 5142, ADTRAN 1148,1248, 5004 and associated vectoring infrastructure, TA5000 and CALIX E3 and E7/C7 equipment
Knowledge of Basic electricity as it relates to telecommunications including: reading & interpreting circuit diagrams, equipment drawings, & technical manuals, AC/DC usage and measurements.
Working knowledge of test equipment (e.g., Laptop, Sidekick, Volt-ohm meter, Transmission Measuring, Light Meter, OTDR, HST3000, TB6K ) sets or comparable testing equipment and other basic hand/power tools.
Experience in end to end telephony of copper and fiber technology in various environments indoors and outdoors in all-weather situations. Requiring working aloft or in confined spaces.
Experience using various computer systems (e.g. Windows, WFA, Fireworks and Bidmaster), reading engineering prints and diagrams.
Ability to perform strenuous physical activities including, but not limited to lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds.
Requires state drivers’ license and current satisfactory driving record.
Ability to work well with others to achieve common goals and to foster a cooperative climate, as well as to work independently in the field with little supervision.
Ability to meet standards of security investigation, if required.
Employees are required to work varying tours and hours, including possible mandatory overtime, pager duty, weekends and holidays.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Education: Associates Degree or higher in Telecommunication/Electronics or related field of studies
Three plus years recent experience in field as a CDT/COT technician.
Extensive EoC and Metro E, DLC experience.
Experienced and/or training in Fiber Optic systems, transmissions and protocols to include installation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
Extensive Calix E7 and C7 experience with installations, maintenance and troubleshooting.
Experienced with Adtran Ta5K and Ta3K systems and technologies with installation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
Excellent working knowledge of GPON and Troubleshooting Fiber services.
Experience working in teams or alone problem solving, coordinating testing and troubleshooting customer lines or toll lines.
