Job Summary

Based at our Fleet Place offices, near St Paul’s in London, you will be part of a small EMEA tax team responsible for tax compliance and planning for the EMEA and Asia Pac region, reporting to VP Tax.

This is a high profile stand alone and hands on specialist position, reporting to the VP of Tax for the region, and responsible for VAT/Indirect Taxes across the EMEA and Asia Pac regions covering 40+ countries and 50+ legal entities.

Job Description

The VAT/Indirect Tax compliance is handled by the accounting team or outsourced to a third party provider this role is responsible for ensuring returns are prepared, reviewed and filed on time across the region.

Technical review of monthly and quarterly VAT returns prepared by in house accountants or external advisor for the EMEA countries, ensuring SOX processes are followed and accurate filings within statutory deadlines.

Technical and practical advice to sales/legal/procurement on multi-jurisdictional sales and purchase contracts negotiation and drafting of tax efficient and commercially acceptable tax clauses.

Manage VAT tax audits for the EMEA, and Asia Pac region.

Monitor legislative changes in the relevant countries and advise / support IT to implement changes to existing systems to reflect new legal requirements relating to VAT reporting or VAT rate changes.

Maintain close relationships with IT, AP and AR to ensure configuration of ERP and billing systems for correct reporting of VAT and provide training where necessary.

Qualifications

In depth knowledge of UK and European VAT law and procedures with knowledge of correct VAT treatment of international transactions in services and goods for a multinational telecommunications company.

Experience of managing a range of challenging and demanding internal and external stakeholders.

Proactive individual who wants a chance to drive the VAT agenda in a global business.

Ability to quickly build internal networks across the business and become a trusted business advisor to staff in other functions [legal, sales, procurement, finance, billings and IT] at all levels

Experience of explaining tax technical matters to non-tax experts.

Providing support when required to tax teams in the US and LATAM.

Experience in drafting and negotiating tax clauses dealing with VAT and withholding taxes in multi-jurisdictional sales contracts.

Working knowledge of or ability to research and assimilate basics of non-European sales tax systems worldwide.

Experience of working with Oracle and SAP or a similar ERP systems/billing systems to ensure the proper and efficient set up from a tax perspective across the region – specific experience in configuring systems for the handling and reporting of VAT would be beneficial.

Good grounding in accounting principles.

Responsible for monitoring and managing indirect tax risks or opportunities across the region and the ability to demonstrate sound judgment.

Working knowledge of customs and logistics procedures would be an advantage.

Experience of working with a third party outsourcer.

Relevant professional qualification [eg qualified VAT inspector or CTA], with UK and International VAT experience preferably in the telecommunications industry.
