Job Summary

The Operations Tech - II should have an advanced understanding of Transport Network functions such as SONET and DWDM signal flow and troubleshooting. Performs tasks associated with the maintenance, installation and change of company transport network service. With a solid understanding of telecommunications, the tech II will be responsible for implementing, troubleshooting, managing and correcting customer and network service issues.

Job Description

  1. Efficiently install, change and repair services on the network.

  2. Provides technical training to Tech I level personnel.

  3. Provides accurate and consistent internal and external customer communication during established intervals using phone, email, and ticketing notes.

  4. Escalates, for higher order support, to technical leadership and Management.

  5. Operate in multiple systems and databases as required.

  6. Coordinate and perform low to mid-level complexity migrations.

  7. Works with internal peer teams to assist with customer trouble resolution.


  1. 2 years of college or technical school in electronics or telecommunications preferred.

  2. Entry level experience and/or knowledge of at least one of the three major technical disciplines: Transmission (DS1/DS3/SONET), Switching (circuit-switching/SS7) and TCP/IP (routers/higher-layer protocols).

  3. Strong analytical skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.

  4. Ability to effectively prioritize workload.

  5. Resourceful, innovative, and creative.

  6. Ability to work extra hours as needed.

  7. Must be willing to work on call via pager and/or cell phone, including weekends or holidays to support the operations staff
