CenturyLink seeks an experienced and innovative Lead Copywriter with a passion for creating engaging narratives with a strong voice across top level campaign concepts, to paid media advertising, and everything in between.

The ideal candidate will be highly conceptual with the experience to see the big picture, but also believe that great storytelling comes down to execution and details. So, rolling up one’s sleeves and staying closely involved with the work is critical, while also managing and empowering the team for their future growth and success

This role combines creativity and strategy to develop leading-edge creative concepts fresh concepts and storytelling ideas that meet project goals and maximize the impact of each marketing message. The applicant should have a combination of proven, high-level creative skills and a background working to tell compelling stories for complex technology.

The candidate is a leader, tightly partnering with the creative director, content manager, art directors and other copywriters to develop creative concepts and mentor junior writers on creative executions across multiple channels. As a copy director, the candidate will be responsible for:

Job Description

  • Execute and shepherd copy development from concept and executive buy-in through all stages of creative development—ensuring faithful execution, quality, and brand consistency all the way

  • Execute across a wide range of output, from the big one-off campaigns, to the tactical everyday deliverables

  • Help define and evolve our brand voice, and advocate its application across different products and platforms

  • Work closely with campaign managers and project managers to meet established SLAs and deadlines

  • Advise business partners on copy recommendations and/or issues as needed

  • Make concept and creative presentations to business partners as needed

  • Be an active member of a larger copy team, participate in copy critiques and peer reviews

  • Create copy for integrated campaigns to projects that involve digital, video, print etc.

  • Interface with external resources that may be involved in creative or production

  • Partner with art directors and creative strategists to take briefs and turn them into big, original, culturally vibrant ideas

  • Push the brand and our marketing practice into new media, experimenting, testing and tracking

  • Be comfortable with projects that may not be completely defined and use a scrappy, resourceful approach to bring definition and drive results when needed

  • Develop and explore a variety of concepts within a set period of time, balance creativity and attention to detail with swift execution


  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum of 6 years of copywriting experience at an ad agency or in-house creative department

  • B2B copywriting experience for tech company or clients is a MUST

  • A portfolio that demonstrates strategically grounded, creative storytelling across digital and traditional media, for major brands

  • Self-driven with the ability to sometimes create work in isolation, and propel work forward

  • Excellent design skills, strong sense of typography, attention to detail, and ability to adhere to brand style guide

  • Strong writing skills. Ability to craft punchy, whip-smart headlines. Write concise, readable body copy.

  • Ability to express B2B and technology concepts in language that reads like a friendly conversation

  • Outstanding writing and editing skills for product marketing materials produced by our agency

  • Demonstrated ability to manage delivery of projects/programs in a cross functional, geographically dispersed environment in a timely and effective manner

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, working on both strategy and tactics
